Windmill Golf Academy
Windmill Golf Academy opened the largest synthetic golf green in the UK, designed and supplied by Southwest Greens. Steve Scott-Bowen, Director of Golf at Windmill Golf Academy in Bristol, has worked closely with Warren Bailey Managing Director of Southwest Greens UK, to produce a state of the art floodlit 800 m2 synthetic green with 12 pin positions, and various chipping pods to facilitate every shot around a green. The Windmill Golf Academy was established in 2010. Converting arable farmland into a top specification golf academy. Starting with the 20 bay driving range. The next phrase saw the launch of the Southwest Greens short game practice facilities, supported by three full time resident PGA coaching Pros. The Southwest Green short game practice facility by Nicklaus design has incorporated undulations, curves and flats only replicated on the finest natural grass golf courses. The construction incorporating over 1200 tonnes of materials replicates the ball reaction in terms of reception, roll and bounce. Providing a long term and cost effective maintenance facility enabling golfers to improve on their short game without the worry of divot repairs, dark evenings or diverse weather conditions. This facility is open to the public and will be used by County Squads and golfers of all ability levels, especially in the winter months when real grass is not an option.
